This weekend, 14th February 2023, I will be attending the last part of a crime writing course at West Dean College near Chichester, and I couldn’t be more excited about it.
The course will be led by two renowned authors, Lesley Thomson and Elly Griffiths. They are both experts in their fields and have written several books that have captivated readers worldwide. Lesley Thomson is the author of the popular Detective’s Daughter Series series, while Elly Griffiths is the author of the award-winning Dr. Ruth Galloway series.
As if that wasn’t enough, we will also be joined by ex-detective Graham Bartlett on Sunday. He will be sharing his experiences and knowledge of the world of crime, giving us an insight into how real-life cases are investigated and solved.
It’s a three-part course at West Dean College, ending in a certificate in crime writing and with us submitting the first five thousand words of a novel for feedback. I have had the opportunity to meet like-minded people and learn from some of the best in the business. This weekend, I’m looking forward to catching up with my fellow students and sharing our progress since we last met.
The course will cover a wide range of topics, from the basics of crime writing to the intricacies of character development, the importance of setting and place, and plot structure. We will also have the opportunity to receive feedback on our writing from the course leaders and our peers, helping us to improve our skills and develop our unique style.
This course has been a major influence in my journey as a writer. If you’re interested in becoming a crime writer or simply love crime fiction, I highly recommend attending a course like this. It’s a fantastic opportunity to learn from the experts, meet like-minded people, and develop your skills as a writer.
